Researchers in Italy have found a link between an organic Mediterranean diet and improved male fertility, according to a study published in the journal Current Research in Food Science. The study examined the effects of a low-carbohydrate organic Mediterranean diet on testosterone levels and sperm DNA fragmentation in sub-fertile men aged between 35 and 45. Participants who followed the diet experienced a significant increase in testosterone levels and a reduction in sperm DNA fragmentation. The diet included 80% organic foods, low glycemic index carbohydrates, whole grains, fresh vegetables, legumes, and avoided processed foods and dairy products. The findings suggest that a pre-conception low-carbohydrate, organic Mediterranean diet can benefit male reproductive health by increasing testosterone levels and reducing sperm DNA fragmentation. This study highlights the importance of dietary factors in male fertility and provides valuable insights for couples trying to conceive.
