London Cinema Cancels Premiere of Kevin Spacey’s Return Film

A renowned independent cinema in London’s vibrant West End has decided to retract its offer to host the premiere of Kevin Spacey’s latest film. The cinema made this unexpected U-turn upon discovering that Spacey would be involved in the movie, despite his absence from the film industry following allegations of abuse made against him in 2017.

The Prince Charles Cinema initially agreed to showcase the new micro-budget Welsh thriller, Control. However, they were taken aback when they found out about Spacey’s appearance in the film. It is worth noting that the actor was acquitted of sexual assault charges at a trial held in London back in July. In Control, Spacey’s role is reportedly limited, appearing solely through phone calls with the character played by Welsh actor Lauren Metcalfe, who is also the film’s producer.

Greg Lynn, the manager of the Prince Charles Cinema, sent an email to Metcalfe expressing his apologies and informing her about their decision to cancel the film’s premiere. He stated, Last night it came to our attention that your film features Kevin Spacey, in particular, his first film since the court case. My staff and I are horrified that we are being mentioned in the same breath as his new film for the premiere.

Despite the last-minute change of plans by the Prince Charles Cinema, representatives for Metcalfe revealed that they have managed to secure an alternative venue for the premiere at the Genesis Cinema in Bethnal Green. They assured everyone that they consider the matter closed and are looking forward to the event taking place at the new location.

In response to the cancellation, Spacey’s attorney expressed his disappointment with the cinema’s decision, saying, Mr. Spacey has proven his innocence in every courtroom in which he has appeared. Every juror who has considered the evidence against him has unanimously rejected the false allegations.

The attorney continued, The Prince Charles Cinema’s decision to censor Kevin’s exciting new project is beyond disappointing. It rejects the legal process of two countries, ignores the overwhelming evidence of Kevin’s innocence, and disregards the sacrifice of dozens of impartial jurors who found Kevin 100% innocent.

The controversial nature of Kevin Spacey’s involvement in Control has led to the cancellation of the premiere at the Prince Charles Cinema. While some may support the decision, others argue that Spacey’s acquittal and the unanimous rejection of allegations by the jurors should be taken into account. Ultimately, the film’s producers have found an alternative venue, ensuring that the premiere will still take place, allowing viewers to judge the film on its merits.
