Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, was adjourned on Tuesday as opposition parties continued their protests demanding a discussion on the recent violence in Manipur and a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As soon as the Lok Sabha convened for the day, opposition parties started their protests during the Question Hour. However, Speaker Om Birla urged the opposition members to resume their seats and allow the House to function properly. He emphasized that raising slogans and displaying placards was not a solution and went against the parliamentary traditions.

Despite the Speaker’s appeal, the opposition members continued their protests, leading to the adjournment of the House until 2 pm.

The Congress party and other opposition parties have been consistently demanding a detailed discussion on the situation in Manipur, even at the cost of other scheduled business for the day. They also demanded a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the issue.

Since the monsoon session of Parliament began on July 20, the Lok Sabha has witnessed repeated disruptions and adjournments due to the ongoing impasse between the opposition and the government.

In an attempt to resolve the deadlock, floor leaders of opposition parties held a meeting on Tuesday morning. The meeting was conducted in the chamber of Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha (upper house of Parliament).

The government has been making efforts to reach out to opposition leaders in order to break the impasse and ensure a smooth functioning of the Parliament. However, a resolution has not been reached yet.

It is crucial for the Parliament to address the concerns raised by the opposition regarding the Manipur violence issue. The demand for a discussion and a statement from the Prime Minister reflects the opposition’s desire to hold the government accountable and seek a satisfactory resolution for the situation.

It remains to be seen how the ongoing protests and impasse will be resolved and whether the Lok Sabha will be able to fulfill its legislative responsibilities amid the disruptions. The government and the opposition must engage in constructive dialogue to find a way forward and ensure the smooth functioning of the Parliament.
