Liverpool’s Anfield Road Stand Redevelopment Resumes with New Contractor
Liverpool Football Club has announced that the redevelopment of Anfield Road Stand will continue after appointing new contractors to carry out the work. The club was left disappointed last month when the initial contractor, Buckingham Group, entered administration. Fans were naturally concerned about the impact this would have on the timeline of the renovation and when it would be completed.
Though the club has not provided an updated finish date, they have managed to find an alternative contractor to resume the project. Currently, Liverpool has been hosting games with a reduced capacity of under 50,000 spectators, which will continue to be the case for upcoming fixtures.
In a statement, the club said, Following Buckingham Group confirming that it has appointed administrators, we have now taken control of the Anfield Road Stand construction site and have appointed Rayner Rowen Construction, along with a number of other contractors, to resume the final works on the project.
The club plans to assess the construction programme and work with Rayner Rowen to produce a revised project completion schedule. This will provide clarity on the capacity and phasing of the expansion. Liverpool expects to incrementally phase in the additional capacity over the next three home games.
These developments come at an opportune time for Liverpool, as European club football is currently on hold due to the international break. They will play their next home game against West Ham on September 24.
The ongoing construction has not hindered Liverpool’s performance this season, with wins in their two home matches against Bournemouth and Aston Villa. Currently sitting joint-second in the Premier League, two points behind league leaders Manchester City, Liverpool is eager to complete the stand and fully open it.
Once the redevelopment is finished, the total capacity of Anfield will increase by approximately 7,000 seats to a total of 61,000. This will make Anfield Stadium the fourth-largest in the Premier League, behind Manchester United, Tottenham, and West Ham.
Everyone at Liverpool Football Club is working diligently to ensure the completion of the Anfield Road Stand as quickly and safely as possible. The club appreciates the support and understanding of the fans during this unfortunate situation. Liverpool FC would also like to express sympathy for all the employees and contractors facing uncertainty due to the administration of Buckingham Group.
In conclusion, the redevelopment of Liverpool’s Anfield Road Stand is back on track with the appointment of a new contractor. This news brings hope that the project will progress smoothly and allow the club to increase its stadium capacity, providing an enhanced matchday experience for fans.
