Live Better, the Archbold-led collaborative focused on improving the health of the citizens of Thomas County, is set to host the fourth annual Live Better Heart and Sole Fun Run for kids. This one-mile fun run, targeting K-5 students, aims to raise awareness about the link between obesity and heart disease, while promoting a heart-healthy lifestyle through physical fitness and healthy eating.

Obesity has become a pressing concern in the United States, with nearly 70% of American adults being either overweight or obese. Shockingly, one in three children in the country are also considered overweight or obese. The implications of childhood obesity are far-reaching, often leading to a range of health problems in adulthood. Furthermore, obese children are more likely to become obese adults, thereby increasing their risk of developing heart disease.

To combat this growing issue, the Live Better Heart and Sole Fun Run will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. The starting and finishing point will be at the Cardiovascular Consultants of South Georgia office, located at 116 Mimosa Drive. Participants can register for the race at the cost of $10, with each registered race participant receiving a commemorative race t-shirt.

Todd Bennett, Archbold Clinical Outreach Manager, emphasized the importance of instilling healthy habits in children from an early age. Our goal for this run is to encourage children and their families to be active and establish healthy habits. It’s important to teach children early on about the importance of establishing heart-healthy habits, he stated.

In addition to promoting heart-healthy habits, the event aims to make physical activity a fun and engaging experience for children. The race will include awards for the top male and female finishers in each grade, as well as an overall award for the top male and female finishers.

Registration for the Live Better Heart and Sole Fun Run ends on Friday, February 2, 2024, with no on-the-day registrations available. Interested participants are encouraged to secure their spots promptly.

This event provides an opportunity for children and their families to come together, participate in physical activity, and advance the cause of improved health. By fostering a community that values fitness and nutrition, Live Better hopes to make a lasting impact on the well-being of Thomas County’s residents.
