A new locally owned and operated running festival named Legend of the Peaks is set to take place in Rotorua on November 11 and 12. The festival, organized by Rotorua residents Tak and Tu Mutu, aims to attract both newcomers and professional athletes with its challenging courses. Participants can choose from various distances including 2km, 5km, 10km, 21km, and a grueling 42km forest marathon that encompasses four peaks.
The marathon, which will traverse the Titokorangi and Whakarewarewa Forests, will have participants summiting the Kohaturoa, Titokorangi, Moerangi, and Kakapiko peaks. The event organizers are ambitious in their goal to have over 3000 participants and have promised an epic experience complete with entertainment, an expo featuring market-style food and beverage options, and an unforgettable running adventure.
Event Director Tak Mutu revealed that the concept for the festival has been in the works for several years. The organizers hope to foster a sense of community and inspire a deeper connection with the stunning landscapes that surround Rotorua.
