The Law Commission is considering working on the issue of Uniform Civil Code (UCC), according to Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. She heads the committee which is preparing a draft of the code for Uttarakhand. After meeting with the Law Commission chairman and members in New Delhi, Desai stated that the meeting was just a courtesy call, but that they also shared some ideas and discussed the work that the Uttarakhand UCC committee has done. When asked if the work done by the Uttarakhand UCC committee can be replicated at the national level, Desai expressed her wish that it will be good if other states follow.
