Supreme Court Upholds Horse Racing Safety Law, Rejects Republican Challenge, US

0

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a challenge from Republican-controlled states to a horse racing safety law that has led to national medication and anti-doping rules.

The justices left in place an appeals court ruling that upheld the law and rejected claims that Congress gave too much power to the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority, the private entity that administers the rules.

Oklahoma, Louisiana, and West Virginia sought to have the law struck down, joined by several racetracks.

The anti-doping program, which took effect in the spring of 2023, is an attempt to centralize the drug testing of racehorses and manage the results, as well as dole out uniform penalties to horses and trainers instead of the previous patchwork rules that varied from state to state.

Legislation to dismantle the new authority was introduced in September in the House of Representatives but hasn’t gone anywhere.

Ransomware Attack on London Hospitals: Patient Data Dump Raises Concerns, UK

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Here is the revised response:

Ransomware involves criminals paralyzing computer systems with malware, then demanding money to release them. Ransomware is the costliest and most disruptive form of cybercrime, affecting local governments, court systems, hospitals and schools as well as businesses. It is difficult to combat as most gangs are based in former Soviet states and out of reach of Western justice.

Britain’s state-funded health system has been hit before, including during a 2017 ransomware attack that froze computers at hospitals across the country, closing down wards, shutting emergency rooms and bringing treatment to a halt.

Qilin, also known as Agenda, advertises on dark web cybercrime forums and leases malware to affiliates who use it to conduct attacks for a percentage of ransom payments, said Louise Ferrett of Searchlight Cyber, a threat intelligence company. The group has listed more than 100 victims.

Man Abandons Lover’s 4-Year-Old Son on Train, Cooks Up Kidnap Story: Arrested in Nagpur, India

0

NAGPUR – Feeling that his lover’s four-year-old son was an obstacle in their relationship, a 25-year-old man abandoned the minor in a train and cooked up a story that he had been kidnapped by his biological father. Police investigation after a complaint by the mother unravelled the story, while the boy was found crying by train passengers at Wardha railway station, and handed over to the cops there, who reunited him with his mother. Ganeshpeth police have registered a case of kidnapping and misleading investigations against the accused Hansraj Dakhne. Police said a 30-year-old married woman was having regular fights with her husband, so she started living separately with her four-year-old son for the last few months. Around a month ago, she started living on rent in a lodge with her son, and used to do cleaning work at a hostel. During that period, she met Dakhne, who also worked at the same place. Soon, their friendship turned into a love affair, and they started living together. Dakhne even asked the woman to marry him. The woman asked Dakhne to accept her son as well. However, Dakhne did not want the child. On June 21, Dakhne told his lover that he would take the boy and get him admitted to a school. The woman believed Dakhne and sent her son with him. When she returned home at night, her son was missing while Dakhne was sleeping. The woman asked Dakhne about her child, and he told her that they were standing at a bus stop when three persons approached them and kidnapped the child. Dakhne also said that the boy called one of the kidnappers ‘papa’. So, the woman called her estranged husband, who told her to immediately approach the police station. The woman went to Ganeshpeth police station and narrated the whole story. Cops questioned the woman’s husband and realized Hansraj Dakhne was somehow involved in the case. Cops questioned Dakhne, who broke down and told the police that he had left the kid on a train as he did not want him. The cops also shared the picture of the boy to nearby districts. Cops said Dakhne had left the kid on a train to Wardha. The boy was found crying by passengers, who handed him over to GRP at Wardha station. The boy was kept in a children’s home. Meanwhile, we had also launched a search for him and even checked CCTV footage. We received information from Wardha GRP that they had found the child. We soon sent a team to Wardha and brought the boy, said senior PI of Ganeshpeth police station Macchindra Pandit. Police registered a case in the matter and arrested Dakhne. He was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.
