Recently, video of several minor boys disembarking from a truck while being accompanied by police grew popular on social media. Such posts were accompanied with claims suggesting that the boys had entered India illegally from Bangladesh and also alluded to their belonging to the Rohingya Muslim community. However, these claims were found to be false.
The boys were actually from Bihar and they were being taken to Kolhapur in Maharashtra to a Madrasa for education. Shivam Dixit and ‘Izlamic Terrorist’ tweeted the same video with the wrong claims. Another user, @KumarSingh600 posted the video with a caption that pointed towards a “traitor” who had “allowed the Bangladeshis to enter India”.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the video was uploaded on May 17 and that the children had their Aadhar cards on them which could identify them. After this, police contacted the Maulana of the Madrasa who identified the students with their names and family details. The children were under the custody of the Child Welfare Committee of Kolhapur and it was found that the actual number of children present in the truck was 69. They were going back to their homes in Bihar and their identities were confirmed by Child Welfare Committee Bihar.
