0

After the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) decision to withdraw Rs 2,000 notes from circulation, social media has been abuzz with claims that special forms and ID proof have to be shown for the exchange of these notes. A copy of the presumed exchange slip has also been circulating online. Vishvas News has investigated the truth behind these claims and found it to be misleading.

The RBI notified that there is no need to produce ID proof or fill out special forms for exchange of the Rs 2,000 notes. The State Bank of India (SBI) reportedly also made it mandatory to fill out the exchange form, but this requirement was withdrawn with immediate order. People can simply deposit the notes or exchange them for other notes at any bank branch following normal procedures. The exchange of notes is available in banks and 19 regional offices of the RBI.

The only change in the RBI notification is the amount limit, which has been raised from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000. This facility of exchange of notes will be available till May 23, 2023.

Governor of RBI, Shaktikanta Das, has also appealed to the public not to panic and rush to banks to exchange notes, as Rs 2,000 notes are still legal and valid. Until May 23, 2023, the notes of Rs 2000 up to Rs 50,000 can be exchanged at a time with normal activities of banks and for the convenience of the customers.

Jamia Millia Islamia Not Included in Economically Weaker Sections Quota: High Court

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has filed an affidavit in the Delhi High Court, opposing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking 10% reservation for students from economically weaker sections (EWS) in terms of the 2019 amendment to the Constitution. JMI argued that as they are a minority institution, they are not covered under the policy.

The Government of India through Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education issued an office memorandum for reservation EWS in Central Educational Institutions in January 2019 which stated that ‘above reservation would not be applicable to the 8 institutions of excellence research institutions…and to the minority educational institutions referred to in clause (1) of article 30 of the Constitution’. This implies that EWS reservation will not be applicable to the Jamia Millia Islamia.

In February 2011 the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions had declared JMI a minority institution, reinforcing their argument. Finally, the affidavit argued that PILs are being exploited by private individuals and that the present petition should be dismissed for being without merit.

UP Madarsa Board To Utilize Intermediate Institutions As Exam Centres From The Next Term

The Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education is working towards a paradigm shift, with plans to use government intermediate colleges as examination centres instead of Madarsas from the next academic session onwards. This conclusion will be made official in the July meeting of the board. The board will monitor the examinations centrally in control rooms from the district level.

In recent examinations held in Lucknow, Kannauj, Aligarh, Azamgarh, Mau and Ambedkar Nagar, it was noted that some requirements such as seating arrangements and employed resources were lacking. To counter these issues, the board has taken the decision to use intermediate colleges instead, to ensure the aim of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh to conduct examination free of copying and to provide a better learning environment. At present, there are 539 exam centres for madrassa board examinations.

Qamar Ali, a member of the Madrasa Board and in-charge of the exam control room, highlighted the issues of Internet connectivity, lack of resources and principals and managers shrugging off responsibility by citing shortages. However, this could soon be addressed with the trial run of the intermediate colleges becoming examination centres.

The control rooms will be associated to the control room of the Madrassa Board and minority welfare officers will be held accountable in case of any discrepancy. The aim is to monitor exam centres at a division-level, making it easier to identify any anomalies that appear.

Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education (UPBME) was formed in the year 1866 and is responsible for providing quality education by way of curbing dropouts, promoting new techniques and modernizing Urdu/Arabic medium education in the state.
