G20 Student Debate on Crucial Topics in Bengaluru

Students from Dr BR Ambedkar School of Economics University in collaboration with Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA) recently hosted an event in Bengaluru to discuss key issues for the G20. The event was organised by the Think20 (T20) program, a platform for think tanks and high-level experts to present and explore policy issues relevant to the G20. At the event, students identified seven main themes for the G20 summit: gender, startups, digital technology, economy, sustainable tourism, blended finance and agriculture, and data for development.

At the event, Ambassador Sujan R. Chinoy, T20 Chair of India’s Presidency commented that with rising global tensions, recessions, and digital reliance, India had a “critical role to play” in driving global progress. Dr NR Bhanumurthy, Vice-Chancellor of BASEU and Chair of the T20, Task Force 1, stated that India has the capabilities to help develop a framework for macro-fiscal-monetary coordination.

Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA) is an autonomous body sponsored by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. It is an apex institution focused on delivering policy relevant research. He has a distinguished career of more than three decades in the Indian Foreign Service and has extensive experience in dealing with complex geopolitical issues. He is a leading expert in India-Japanese relations and maintains strong connections with the Japanese government and parliament.

Strengthening Tech and Innovation Relations between the UK and India

The United Kingdom (UK) is strengthening its ties with India in the field of technology and innovation. Lord Ahmad recently visited India, and met with prominent government officials and ministers to discuss UK-India collaborations in the areas of science, technology and health. The visit was based on the ambitious plans set out in the 2030 Roadmap, which outlines the UK’s long-term vision for the Indo-Pacific region.

Lord Ahmad also launched the ‘English Skills for Youth’ programme. This programme, co-developed by the British Council and Microsoft India, will provide more employment opportunities to young people in India, with a focus on young women. He also announced the winners of the ‘UK-India Health-Tech Boot’ camp and discussed further potential for collaboration in the areas of science and technology with Indian alumni of Chevening, the UK’s flagship international scholarship programme.

The UK is looking to enhance the relationship between the two countries even further by signing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). An FTA between the two countries would increase the current trading relationship by £36 billion by 2022. It would also enable the UK to reap the benefits of being an independent trading nation, open up doors for more trade and investment opportunities and advocate for free trade.

The visit ended in Hyderabad, where Lord Ahmad went to T-Hub and T-Works, as well as the National Institute of Animal Biotechnology. He also shed light on the cultural history of Rajasthan, by visiting the iconic Mehrangarh Fort and meeting with emerging women leaders on the topics of education, sustainability and gender equality.

She added that the UK and India are taking steps to deepened collaboration in the fields of health, climate, trade, education, science, technology, and defence as part of the Roadmap 2030.

Mudit Thakkar, an educator teaching robotics in Indore, pointed out that these skills are in line with the government’s vision for education set out in the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). Tracking Student Progress with DoE Project in Delhi

The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) recently launched the innovative “Project Lighthouse” – an online tracking system enabled with web and mobile apps to monitor the progress of students learning vocational subjects. This real-time monitoring system is being implemented with the help of an NGO, ‘Lend a Hand India’ (LAHI), without any financial implications.

This management information system (MIS) will provide comprehensive information and resources with regards to the vocational branch and its activities, and also feature necessary functions for tracking, monitoring, and evaluating the progress of students in vocational subjects. It is to be implemented in a phased manner. Apart from tracking progress, the app also provides information regarding internships available to students in the area or locality.

DoE’s Vocational branch is committed to enhancing and sustaining the vocationalization of school education across the national capital. To attain this goal, multiple initiatives have been implemented, such as internship/OJT activities, industrial visits, mentor lectures, job fairs, and exit surveys. The app is a step towards providing better implementation of such initiatives by effectively tracking the progress of students.

Project Lighthouse is aimed at helping the department discover new dimensions and strategies for improving the functioning of vocational education in the country.It provides a centralized network that helps students get the most out of their schooling experience. It also connects students with professionals who can help them get the best education possible. This platform is an important asset for the DoE’s endeavors to educate and develop students in NCR.

LAHI has been serving the cause of education, environment, and healthcare for the past 10 years and has made tremendous efforts to connect students with positive learning experiences. The organization has also been working towards creating awareness and providing support to less privileged communities in India. Furthermore, the NGO uses technology-led approaches to contribute to the betterment of the education sector so that students get access to quality career counseling.

Minister Sarang Taking the Lead at BMC: LoP Reports

Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), Shabista Zaki, has denounced the Mayor of Bhopal, Malti Rai, claiming that she actively takes all files to her residence for decision making, thereby delaying the achievement of development objectives, more so with the pending Assembly elections. According to the LoP, BMC Commissioner KVS Chaudhary is not pleased with Mayor Rai’s practice of taking every file to her residence before it is even forwarded to him. The LoP also went ahead to claim that Mayor Rai’s ties with State Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang, who is also the MLA of Narela Assembly constituency where the Mayor resides, is an indication of the former’s influential role in BMC’s decision making.

At a recent council meeting, the BMC Commissioner was asked to explain the delay in the release of development funds. BJP Corporator Yogendra Guddu Chauhan accused the chairman of BMC, Kishan Suryavanshi, for failing to lodge a complaint against Akhtar Enterprises for illegal collection of two-wheeler parking charges in New Market.

Pseb Class X Results: 96.13% Pass Rate in Ludhiana

The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) recently announced the results for the Class X examinations, and the students of Ludhiana have brought glory to the district. The top scorers in the district include two girls, Kiranjeet Kaur of Ajitsar GSSS Raikot, and Divyanshu Kumar of Himgiri Senior Secondary School, Mundiyan Kalan. Kiranjeet has secured the first position in the district and fifth in the state, by scoring 643 out of 650 marks and achieving a percentage of 98.92%. Divyanshu achieved second place in district and sixth in the state, with 642 marks and a 98.72% score.

Coming in at third, with 98.46% and 640 marks, is a tie between Divjot Singh of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, and Himani Dhasmana of Merrymint Public High School, New Amar Nagar. In Ludhiana, a total of 37,212 students appeared for the PSEB Class X exams, and 35,773 passed with flying colors, taking the district pass percentage to 96.13%.

PSEB also issued a list of 304 ‘meritorious students’ who have scored more than 97% marks in the exams. Of this, 52 come from Ludhiana, including six girl students from government schools such as Balnoorvir Kaur (98%) of GSSS Samrala, and Vandini Kumari (97.69%) of Ajitsar GSSS Raikot. Other high-scoring students from the district include Amanjot Kaur of Ajitsar GSSS Girls, Gaurav of Cambridge Modern Senior Secondary School, Chomon, and Mehak of Teja Singh Sutantar Memorial School, Shimlapuri.

The Punjab School Education Board has been providing quality education in the state of Punjab since 1969. Over a Thousand Students Graduate at PWC’s Inaugural Convocation

On Friday, Patna Women’s College (PWC) hosted their very first convocation ceremony, awarding degrees to 826 undergraduate and 251 postgraduate students. The event, held at the Veronica Auditorium of the college, was graced with the presence of Girish Kumar Choudhary, vice-chancellor of Patna University (PU); Khagendra Kumar, registrar at PU; Ajay Kumar Singh, pro vice-chancellor of PU; and the PWC principal Sister M Rashmi AC. The honored Chief Guest was Sunaina Singh, former vice-chancellor of Nalanda University.

The ceremony was opened by Girish Kumar Choudhary, followed by celebrations that honored guests. Sister Rashmi presented the college report, which discussed PWC’s accomplishments in higher education, the college’s role in empowering women, as well as future plans and projects. The convocation began with the awarding of degrees to postgraduate and master’s students of the 2018-20 and 2019-21 batches, respectively. Lord Tariq Ahmad Visits India to Enhance Science and Technology Cooperation

UK Minister Lord Tariq Ahmad is currently in India for a four day visit, from May 27 to 31, to strengthen science, research and innovation partnerships between the two countries. He is scheduled to visit various cultural and technology research sites in Jodhpur, New Delhi and Hyderabad. During the visit, the Minister will participate in meetings with high-level government officials such as Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant.

In addition, Lord Ahmad is expected to make announcements related to the UK-India Health-Tech Bootcamp that has been designed to promote collaboration between the health and start-up communities in the countries. According to the 2030 roadmap agreement, the Minister’s visit will accelerate UK-India collaboration in the areas of science, technology and health.

Lord Ahmad has also taken part in activities that highlight the rich cultural history of Rajasthan. Ayesha and Krishna Shroff, the mother-daughter duo, have opened up about the journey and the obstacles they have faced while launching their MMA promotion.

Talking about the beginning of MFN, Krishna Shroff recalled, “In 2017, MFN truly became an idea. I had been following the sport of MMA for about 20 years, so I brought my mother along with me to an event one weekend. She was completely blown away after watching it and was inspired by the sport. Thanks to my brother’s encouragement, she and I formed a dream team and decided we could do things much better”.

Ayesha Shroff added, “I was so attracted to the live fight that I witnessed in my first MMA show, that I was hooked. After we got back from the show, I told Krishna that we had to do this. We decided to step outside of the box and enter the MMA field, while cricket, football, and kabaddi were surging on in India”.

The Shroff family’s initial hesitation to go into the MMA route due to its lack of popularity in the country presented a challenge. However, their ambition to provide a platform for the Indian fighters and give them the recognition they deserved kept the momentum going.

Ayesha further elaborated, “ MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world but in India we still have to work hard to get the sponsorship. But it never was a vanity project for us. The real intention always was to give these athletes what they really deserved”. Krishna echoed the same sentiment, “Dad also did not understand the concept of the sport initially. But now, he completely supports us and watches all the UFC fights every Sunday morning”.

At present, MFN is set to host their 12th edition on July 1 at the Noida Indoor Stadium, Sector 21 and promises another exciting show. It is aimed to bring the best MMA stars from around the world to bring the best MMA stars from around India and the world.
