Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Shakti Singh Gohil from Delhi and Haryana held a press conference in Bhopal on Saturday, calling out the Modi government for its completion of nine years in power. In order to gain attention for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh elections, Gohil asked nine questions from the BJP for their performance in various areas, such as inflation, fuel prices, unemployment, and more.
Gohil pointed out the 57% price increase in petrol and 1103% increase in LPG cylinders since 2014, the same year Modi came to power. He noted that despite the fall in oil prices from 100 to 70 in barrels, prices of essential commodities have still increased. Gohil also questioned the unemployment rate which he claimed has grown to 30-40%. Furthermore, he accused the government of destroying small businesses without eliminating black money and added that their failure to tackle social harmony has caused a 23% increase in atrocities against Dalits. He concluded by bringing attention to the struggles of farmers which was only addressed after the farm movement pressured the government.
Gohil is a Member of Parliament from the Indian National Congress and heads the in charge of Delhi and Haryana. He has been vocal in his support towards various developmental works, and is a very active member in the Indian political arena. He has spoken out against the policies and procedures of the current government on various occasions.
The Modi government has faced much criticism for its nine-year tenure. Across the country, people have been protesting the implementation of GST, and the impact demonetisation has had on small businesses, in addition to the rise in essential commodity prices as well as unemployment rates. The following Madhya Pradesh elections will be crucial in determining the performance of the current government and could mark a new era for the citizens of India.
