Veracity of Indian Security Expert’s Prediction on Imran Khan’s Drug and Alcohol Abuse Confirmed by Pakistani Minister

An Indian security expert’s prediction that Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan suffered from alcoholism and drug abuse proved to be true after Pakistani Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel released his medical report, which revealed high levels of alcohol consumption and unstable mental health.

Tilak Devasher, a member of India’s National Security Advisory Board, had predicted the poor condition of Imran Khan’s mental health to ANI in an exclusive interview. Devasher believed that Khan was facing withdrawal symptoms due to the significant decrease in his access to drugs and alcohol.

Following the release of the medical report, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced that they will be taking legal action against Minister Abdul Qadir Patel and his staff. During the press conference, the minister informed that there was no information about the Prime Minister’s reported fracture in his leg back in November. He also shared that Khan’s urine sample revealed the presence of drugs and excessive alcohol consumption.

Apart from the medical report, Devasher mentioned the reasons for Imran Khan’s significant popularity in Pakistan. According to the security expert, his presence among the middle-class and lower-middle-class population, combined with strong youth support, mass social media presence, and even his ability to speak false statements that were taken at face value by his followers, made him highly popular.

Tilak Devasher has served on India’s National Security Advisory Board for many years and is a renowned security expert. He is well-accredited for his work concerning South Asia’s political environment and security matters.

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan had served as the 22nd Prime Minister of the country from 2018 to 2020. He was popular among the youth population for his social initiatives and progressive policies. Following his release from a Lahore jail in 2020, Imran Khan stepped down for his Prime Ministerial post and the country’s current Prime Minister, Imran Khan, assumed office.

RTI Activist Arrested in Mumbai for Insulting PM

Mumbai Police arrested a Right to Information (RTI) activist on Saturday for making allegedly derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya. The accused, named Ghulam Qazi, was booked under Indian Penal Code sections 509, 500,506 (2) and 504.

The man was accused of threatening the leaders and making the remarks on Facebook. In April this year, another man was detained for sending a letter to the Prime Minister citing he was going to launch a suicide attack during Modi’s visit to Kochi. In March, a Delhi court acquitted a man accused of abusing and threatening to kill the Prime Minister due to lack of evidence.

RTI (Right to Information) is a movement brought about with the sole aim of bringing transparency in government works. It promotes transparency and holds the government accountable to its people by providing citizens with the right to access governmental information and documents. Since its inception as a law in India, the RTI movement has helped bring about a positive change within the country. Citizens now have the power to question the government about various issues and initiatives, such as the Right to Education, Right to Food Security, and other social welfare schemes.

Ghulam Qazi is an active RTI activist who believes in raising public awareness on issues and making sure the government is held accountable for its actions. He has spearheaded many of the RTI initiatives in Mumbai and across the country. Despite the setback, he is still passionate about the cause and regularly files RTI applications to make sure the people’s right to information is safeguarded.

The arrest of Ghulam Qazi has sparked a nationwide debate on the importance of free speech and the need for the government to provide its people with the right to question the administration. While some view it as a negative step, it also brings to light the importance of holding the government accountable.

Sakinaka Police Station of Mumbai is responsible for the investigation and arrest of Qazi. They are currently looking into the matter and will take appropriate action against the accused.

Union Minister Criticizes Opposition Over Petty Politics

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar recently called out members of the opposition parties for boycotting the inauguration event of the new Parliament building in India. According to him, doing so is an example of the worst level of “petty politics”.

He believes that no Member of Parliament with common sense would miss out on celebrating the opening of the first non-colonial parliament built after India’s independence. Chandrasekhar also took this opportunity to point fingers at the Congress party for allegedly deleting the historical importance of ‘Sengol’ — a traditional practice of handing the symbol of justice and righteousness — from school textbooks.

The Minister further observed that Chief Ministers of other opposition parties were reluctant to participate in the NITI Aayog governing council meeting. He believes that those avoiding contributions for a discussion about the country’s future are worried that they have nothing to contribute.

Chandrasekhar also took a dig at the purported ‘Opposition unity’ of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after its defeat in the Karnataka elections. According to him, submitting multiple parties to form an alternative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government does not bring any added value; after all they can only amount to zero, even with the sum of all their parts.

PM Modi will link this event to the nation on Sunday while the leader of Congress party and other 20 opposition parties had expressed displeasure over the event for “bypassing” President Droupadi Murmu.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar is a businessman and independent Member of Parliament to the Rajya Sabha. He is a member of BJP and has previously served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology. In 2010, he was awarded the “Best Technocrat-Turned-Politician” by AIMA. He is known for his outspoken views and emphasis on the implementation of new technologies and policies for the betterment of Indian citizens.

Rio, Zeliang and Naga Hoho Condemn Vandalism in Kohima

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CM TR Zeliang and the Naga Hoho have voiced strong opinions opposing an incident that occurred in Kohima on May 27th. Unidentified persons vandalized a building that housed the offices of the NSF, ANCSU and other shops.

Chief Minister Rio took to Twitter to express his dismay over the incident of vandalism, urging citizens to respect private and public properties as part of a civilized society. He appealed to citizens of Kohima to maintain peace and harmony and urged the law enforcing agencies to take action at the earliest.

Deputy CM TR Zeliang released a press communiqué condemning the act of vandalism and asked citizens to not take the law into their own hands. Speaking out in support of legal systems, he asked residents of Kohima to be accommodating when exploring ways to resolve issues.

The Naga Hoho viewed the vandalism as an affront to the Naga legacy, history and traditions. The office of the NSF, they said, held sacred the political history, sentiments and emotions of every Naga and its attack a murder to the future Naga generation. The Hoho called for the authorities to take steps against culprits and apply befitting punishment to those found responsible.

NSF is a non-profit organization established in 1945 with the objective of preserving the Naga political rights and interests. It is recognized as the representative body of the sixteen major Naga tribes. The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU), on the other hand, works towards safeguarding the rights and protecting the interests of college students across Nagaland. Both organizations have established a solid presence in the state, extending their services to the Nagaland people with utmost dedication. In this regard, it is imperative for citizens to respect the efforts of such organizations by standing against any acts of vandalism.

Indian Political Parties Competing to Gain Support from Diaspora

India is home to one of the world’s largest diaspora, with around 32 million people of Indian origin living in countries all around the world. As India’s general elections in 2024 approach Indian political parties are competing to gain the support of its diaspora members.

The Indian National Congress party is currently leading this effort with its leader Rahul Gandhi set to meet Indian diaspora members in both San Francisco and New York at the end of May and early June during his visit to the United States. The event is being organized by the Indian Overseas Congress US, a diaspora group that promotes the Congress party, and is inviting members to “Join hands for secular and democratic India”.

Likewise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also reaching out to the Indian diaspora in the run up to the elections. The American chapter of the Overseas Friends of BJP is organizing a unity march in 20 cities on June 18 and 5,000 members of the diaspora have been invited to the White House lawns to welcome Modi on June 22. It is clear that the BJP understands this group has great potential as a source of soft power.

Since the term of late former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, who spearheaded the first Annual Pravasi Bharatiya Divas or Overseas Indians Conference, the Indian government has been engaged with its diaspora. But it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts that have truly energised this relationship, with diaspora events a staple of his foreign travels, including a massive event of nearly 20,000 attendees in 2014 at Madison Square Garden.

The Indian diaspora holds influence both in India and abroad. As Indian political parties reach out to its most expatriated citizens, it is essential that they address their development needs and ensure that the diaspora is listened to in formulating policies.
