Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan recently jokingly questioned the ongoing debate on who would inaugurate the new Parliament building, commenting that it is not written anywhere. While reacting to the comment of Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh about the supposed violation of article 79, Mahajan requested the political parties to keep the inauguration of such an important event, which symbolizes the temple of democracy, above partisan politics.

As the row between the Sengol and the new Parliament building in India rages on, BJP leader and great-grandson of former Union Home Minister C Rajagopalachari , CR Kesavan, has demanded an apology from the Congress party for questioning the history of the sceptre.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had said that there was “no documented evidence whatsoever of Mountbatten, Rajaji and Nehru describing this sceptre as a symbol of the transfer of British power to India” and he had further claimed that all such claims to this effect were “BOGUS”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to establish the Sengol as a national symbol of Amrit Kaal, and it will be presented to him by the 293rd head priest of Madurai Aadheenam during the inauguration of the new Parliament Building. Two members of a family were injured in a fire that was caused by a gas leakage in an apartment in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Saturday, according to an official from the fire brigade. Roshni Mangelal Bishnoi (38) suffered from 60 to 70 per cent of her body surface area burned and her brother, Hanuman (28), received 10 per cent of his body burned when he attempted to save Roshni from the flames.

The neighbors of the residence managed to extinguish the fire and rushed both of them to the hospital.

The fire was said to have originated from a gas leak in an apartment on the second floor of a residential structure in Sagarli area of Dombivili town at around 12 pm. Thankfully, swift and proper precautionary measures were observed, limiting the damage done by the fire.

Two allies in the ruling Left front in Kerala have been having a heated exchange of words after the relocation of a rogue wild tusker, Arikomban, from Chinnakanal in Idukki to the Periyar Tiger Reserve near the Tamil Nadu border on Saturday morning. Kerala Congress (M) leader and Member of the Rajya Sabha, Jose K. Mani criticized the relocation of Arikomban saying it was a failed operation and the Wildlife Laws needed to be revised. He further explained that their strongholds, primarily in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Kozhikode districts have come under severe attacks from tigers, elephants and wild gaurs causing loss of lives and damage of crops.

In response, the State Forest and Wildlife Minister A.K. Saseendran of the NCP defended the relocation operation, saying that they were not attempting to drive the elephant away, and that their officials had been in touch with those in Tamil Nadu for regular updates.
