ED Raids Various Places in Jharkhand Including MLA’s Associated Premises
ED conducted multiple searches at nearly a dozen places across Jharkhand in association with Pradeep Yadav, the Poreyahat MLA, and his close associates’ premises. The searches aimed to establish evidence related to suspicious financial transactions. The central agency carried out the raids on the premises of several companies in Ranchi, Godda, and Dumka districts, including the MLA’s residence, properties belonging to his associates, and local contractors. During the raids, ED seized around Rs 60 lakhs in cash and several incriminating documents from different premises. The recently conducted raids follow an income tax raid that was carried out on Yadav’s premises in November 2022.

Civic Body Plans to Set Up CCTV Cameras in All Ara Wards.

The Ara Municipal Corporation (AMC) has recently decided to take steps to increase safety and improve the general cleanliness of their town. The AMC plans to install CCTV cameras in all 45 of its wards in order to monitor the area and curb incidents of crime and theft. Municipal Commissioner N K Bhagat has asked ward councillors to conduct a survey in their respective areas to determine the number of CCTV cameras needed in each specific ward. Furthermore, to increase visibility and security, the AMC plans to install approximately 3,000 LED lights in various wards. The AMC also decided to build a community hall in each ward if government land is available.

In addition to addressing safety measures, the AMC also plans to focus on improving sanitation efforts. To expedite sanitation work, the AMC will acquire additional handcarts, dustbins, and other cleaning equipment. Ward councillors have also expressed frustration with the arbitrary and high fees charged at cremation ghats, and the AMC plans to establish a rate list display there for transparency. To improve traffic flow, the AMC will shift electric poles on main roads and discuss upcoming dumping yards on the outskirts of Ara town.

One company concerned with this effort is the one selected to install the LED lights throughout the wards of Ara. Their services will help the AMC increase visibility and security within the town.

NIA Raids Multiple Locations in Kerala, Karnataka, and Bihar in Connection to Phulwarisharif PFI Case

Non-bailable warrant issued for Sasaram SHO

A local court in Sasaram has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) of arrest against the SHO of Town police station for not complying with its order to either arrest or attach the property of an accused in a murder case lodged in 2009. The court observed that due to the apathetic attitude of the police administration, the direction of the Patna High Court for disposal of old cases on a priority basis has not been followed. The ADJ had to issue the NBW when the SHO did not submit his reply to the show-cause notice nor execution report of a seven-year-old property attachment warrant against the accused from Takiya area. The SDPO, Sasaram has also been directed to face disciplinary action.

The district police in Sasaram have been in the news for the last six months for their wrongdoings. Imposition of fines on the SP Rohtas and SHOs, and adverse observations against the district police for its malfunctions have become the order of the day.

JD(U) urges Nitish to contest Lok Sabha elections from Phulpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of the JD(U) party may contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Phulpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh, according to senior JD(U) leader Dhananjay Singh. The party believes that the Phulpur constituency would be an ideal seat for Kumar, who belongs to the Kurmi caste, which dominates the region. BJP representative Keshari Devi Patel is the current MP for Phulpur, and also belongs to the Kurmi caste. JD(U) is attempting to unite the opposition, including the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, and Congress, ahead of the 2024 parliamentary polls. Thane resident loses Rs 6.5 Lakh in ‘sextortion’ scam: India News

A man from Thane, Maharashtra fell victim to a sextortion scam and lost Rs 6.5 lakh. The victim received a video call from a woman on WhatsApp where she began to undress herself, prompting the man to disconnect the call. After receiving further messages from the woman, the man was later contacted by someone posing as the Delhi police commissioner who informed the man that a sex racket was being run and his video was about to be uploaded on social media. The caller demanded a payment of Rs 50,000 to stop the video from being uploaded and different people continued to extort the man up to Rs 6.5 lakh over the next week. An FIR was filed, police have registered a case against 10 named persons and five other unidentified persons under Indian Penal Code Sections 420, 406, 34, and IT Act provisions. No arrests have been made yet and the police investigation is ongoing.

The victim, a 39 year-old man from Maharashtra’s Thane city, was working as a corporate consultant before falling victim to the sextortion scam and losing Rs 6.5 lakh.

Brus settled in Tripura to be omitted from Mizoram rolls by June 15

Efforts are being made to remove the names of Bru voters who have permanently settled in Tripura but are still enlisted in the state electoral roll in Mizoram. Mizoram’s chief election officer, Madhup Vyas, has instructed district election officers to delete all such names by June 15. This instruction has come in alignment with the arrangements made by senior officials of the Election Commission of India during their stay in Aizawl, Mizoram’s capital city, in late May. However, the deletion requests being sent by the Tripura state election commission have been slow, resulting in only 4,554 names being removed until May 1.

The Mizoram election department has yet to delete 5,848 Bru names from the voters’ list. While 4,083 Bru voters’ names have been removed following requests from the Tripura state election commission, 471 names of Bru voters have been deleted based on scanned forms received from the Tripura SEC. In addition, at least 3,859 Bru voters’ names have been deleted from the three assembly constituencies of Hachhek, Mamit, and Dampa in Mamit district until May 1. The move comes after a quadripartite agreement was reached between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the states of Mizoram, Tripura, and the Centre, and representatives of displaced Bru families.

SP MLA Receives Multiple Jail Sentences in Three Cases

Ramakant Yadav, a four-time MP and current SP MLA, has been sentenced to multiple jail terms in three cases by the additional chief judicial magistrate-III in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. Yadav has been given four months, three months, and two months of imprisonment for assault and issuing threats under three sections of IPC. The charges were made against him in 2019 and Yadav was brought to the court campus in Jaunpur from Fatehgarh jail for the verdict. The multiple jail terms will run concurrently. The court has also ordered Yadav to pay cash penalties for the offences. Yadav is currently lodged in Fatehgarh jail and was produced before the court amid tight security. The Superintendent of Police in Jaunpur, Ajay Pal Singh, has been overseeing the prosecution officers in the case to ensure the early disposal of the pending criminal cases, including that of the MP-MLA court.

Yadav has been held in Fatehgarh jail and was brought to the court campus in Jaunpur for the verdict on his case. His charges were made against him in 2019, and he is accused of assaulting and threatening Mitrasen Singh of Tarapur Katghara area. Yadav has been sentenced to four, three, and two-month imprisonment terms for his actions.

 

Hearing on Voice Samples of Firm Owner and Former Judge Adjourned

The case related to the taking of voice samples of Roop Lal Bansal, owner of M3M company, and former judicial officer VP Gupta has been adjourned until June 6th. This comes after the names of the two men were mentioned in a corruption case involving former Panchkula CBI court judge Sudhir Parmar. Parmar had consented to giving his voice samples on May 17th, while Bansal and Gupta failed to appear for the hearing. The counsels of Bansal and Gupta have requested documents and records in order to understand why the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) approached the court to seek their voice samples. The court had previously directed the investigating officer to provide documents and material asked by Parmar. The case was registered against Parmar, his nephew Ajay Parmar, and Roop Bansal under sections 7,8,11,13 of PC Act & 120B IPC at Panchkula police station on April 17th. Parmar is currently under suspension.

M3M is a prominent real estate development company based in Gurgaon, India. They specialize in high-end construction and have undertaken a number of major projects across the country, including commercial spaces, residential communities, and golf courses.

Roop Lal Bansal is the owner of M3M company and has been mentioned in a corruption case along with former judicial officer VP Gupta. The case involves former judge Sudhir Parmar and his nephew Ajay Parmar, who allegedly accepted bribes from M3M and other companies. Bansal and Gupta have been called in for voice samples, but their counsels have requested documents and records before proceeding. Parmar had previously consented to giving his voice samples, while Bansal and Gupta had not appeared for the hearing. Parmar is currently under suspension from his position as an additional and sessions judge.
