The Impact of India’s Q4 GDP on Stock Markets

India’s Q4FY23 GDP is expected to be in the range of 5-5.5 percent and will be released by the National Statistical Office on May 31. Experts and market participants predict that India’s GDP may surpass the first advance estimate of 7 percent by the NSO. India remains one of the fastest-growing large economies globally but is expected to have lower growth due to global factors. Although GDP numbers are crucial for market participants as they measure the size and health of an economy, analysts do not expect a strong market reaction to the numbers as they are predicted to be in the range of 5 percent or slightly above. In-line numbers will reinforce faith in the Indian economy and underpin market sentiment. Both Chokkalingam, Founder and Head of Research at Equinomics Research Private Limited and V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services believe that the market has already discounted a lower growth and believe in the economic growth of the country’s potential ahead.
