ED seizes assets worth Rs 248.98 crore in bank fraud case related to Surana Group of Companies

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth Rs 248.98 crore in connection with three cases of bank fraud involving the Surana Group of Companies, based in Chennai. The attached assets include 78 immovable properties and 16 movable properties valued at Rs 124 crore. Earlier, the ED had attached properties worth Rs 124.95 crore. The ED initiated a money laundering investigation based on three FIRs lodged by the CBI against Surana Industries Limited, Surana Power Limited, and Surana Corporation Limited and others. The Surana Group of Companies defrauded the banks by creating shell companies and appointed their employees and relatives as Directors, Proprietors, Partners, and indulged in paper transactions with them without actual movement of goods. This led to the accounts becoming irregular, ultimately leading to them becoming NPA.

The Surana Group of Companies is a Chennai-based company that is involved in several industries such as textiles and renewable energy. The company was founded by Surana brothers, Dinesh and Vijay.

Dinesh Chand Surana and Vijay Raj Surana are two directors of the Surana Group of Companies who were arrested by the ED along with two dummy directors of shell companies, P. Anand and I. Prabhakaran, on July 12, 2022.

Asaduddin Owaisi criticizes PM Modi for excluding people of certain religion from Parliament inauguration

Lawrence Bishnoi sent to judicial custody in illegal arms supply case to his gang.

Delhi’s Patiala House Court has sent Lawrence Bishnoi to judicial custody until June 14 in connection with an illegal arms supply case involving the Bishnoi-Jathedi gang. Bishnoi was produced via video conferencing after being interrogated by the police for four days. The Special Cell of Delhi police stated that further police custody was not required while the investigation is ongoing. The CMM also examined a medical report stating that Bishnoi had not eaten in four days, after which he was visited by the judge. Bishnoi claimed to be fasting, surviving on liquids and coconut water.

The case concerns the recovery of 25 pistols from arms trafficker Mukund Singh, who allegedly supplied weapons to the Bishnoi-Jathedi gang. The Delhi police had requested four days of custody to identify gang members, locate their weapons stockpiles and apprehend additional members of the gang. The police had also requested permission to interrogate Bishnoi to confront him with Singh, who is already in PC remand for this case.

The accused Lawrence Bishnoi has been in the news for years. He is a member of the Bishnoi community, known for its conservationist beliefs, and hails from Rajasthan. Senior police officer arrested by Punjab Vigilance Bureau for possessing disproportionate assets

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ashish Kapoor has been arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau for allegedly owning expensive immovable and movable assets illegally. He had acquired these assets beyond his known sources of income in Chandigarh and Mohali. A corruption case has been registered against him and his wife, Kamal Kapoor after a vigilance investigation proved the allegations of acquiring unaccounted assets. The accused has been granted a three-day police remand for questioning. The Vigilance Bureau has arrested Kapoor earlier in October last year for accepting a bribe of Rs 1 crore through different cheques.
