Increase in Delhi’s Pre-Monsoon Rainfall by 186%, Improved Air Quality Since 2016
Delhi has seen significantly more rainfall in its pre-monsoon season compared to previous years, with a total of 184.3mm, 186% more than typical levels, indicating that western disturbances originating from the Mediterranean may be the reason for the excess rainfall. These disturbances have also caused temperatures to remain below 40°C in May and a record of the best air quality in January to May since 2016. Experts caution that the excess rainfall cannot be definitively attributed to climate change, as there is no concrete data to prove such a link. A new western disturbance is forecasted to bring rain and gusty winds to Delhi from June 1, with temperatures predicted to remain below 40°C until June 5.
As for the company mentioned in the article, there is no specific company mentioned.

Goa Congress claims rampant corruption in ‘Smart City’ project
The Congress party in Goa alleges that the corruption in the ‘Smart City’ project is high, and calls for an investigation into it by Union Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. Congress leader Elvis Gomes criticized the BJP government for not investigating the corruption and continuing with substandard work. Puri had stated that Congress’s allegations were unconfirmed, prompting Gomes to challenge his party to prove their allegations with an investigation. Gomes further claimed that the BJP leaders, including the Chief Minister, Urban Development Minister, and Secretary, were all guilty of corruption and had no intention of investigating it. Congress suggests that the ongoing substandard work has been exposed by the media and promised to raise questions of public interest. Congress Media Cell Chairman Amarnath Panjikar added that they would not keep quiet over the corruption of the Smart City.
Smart City is an urban renewal program aimed to develop cities’ infrastructure and improve the quality of life of citizens using technology and innovation. The Government launched the Smart Cities Mission in 2015 to develop 100 Smart Cities in India by 2022.
Congress leader Elvis Gomes is a former bureaucrat who had resigned from his position as Goa’s Director of Municipal Administration in 2016 to contest elections. In 2017, he was elected the President of the Goa unit of the Aam Aadmi Party. He now serves as the Vice President of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.
Tamil Nadu opposes Karnataka’s dam proposal on Cauvery
Tamil Nadu’s Water Resources Minister and senior DMK leader, S. Durai Murugan, has restated his state’s opposition to Karnataka’s plans to construct a dam at Mekedatu across the Cauvery river. Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, had recently announced that the state was keen to build the dam and had allocated INR 1,000 crore ($140 million) towards the project. Murugan has expressed surprise that officials may not have given Shivakumar complete information on the proposal, and said that Tamil Nadu will oppose the proposal at all levels. He went on to say that he expects to meet Shivakumar in order to further discuss the issue of the Mekedatu dam. In 2017, protesters in Tamil Nadu burned effigies of both Shivakumar and Karnataka’s Chief Minister at the time, Siddaramaiah, following their construction of Padyatra, a journey on foot, to help build support for the proposed dam.
