The Vijayawada Division of the South Central Railway (SCR) zone in India has dispatched the first-ever rake loaded with palm oil nut shells husk from Samarlakota in Andhra Pradesh to Pathri in Uttar Pradesh. The 2,680 tonnes of husk were loaded into 42 BCN wagons and transported at a 45 per cent lower cost compared to road transport. Palm oil nut shells are used as fuel for boilers and kilns due to their high calorific value. The marketing team holds regular meetings with customers to help drive home the advantages of shipping goods on trains and increase the Division’s revenue.
