CAIT urges disbanding Monitoring Committee on sealing
Traders’ associations in Delhi have voiced strong opposition against the Monitoring Committee on sealing’s proposal to conduct additional inspections to enforce sealing. The proposal could lead to the arbitrary sealing of businesses, which would have a detrimental effect on the traders and the city’s development. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and state president Vipin Ahuja, alongside 15 business leaders of Delhi, emphasised the need for fair and prompt solutions for businesses affected by sealing. The trade leaders called on the Chief Minister of Delhi and the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation to take action and dissolve the monitoring committee since a judicial committee had already been constituted by the court. The trade leaders highlighted that Delhi’s businesses have already suffered due to sealing, and demanded the announcement of an amnesty scheme to save the city’s businesses. They emphasised that any new measures should only apply prospectively, except for actions regarding encroachments on government land. The traders have no objections in this regard.
