Delimitation based on population to potentially spark major social movement suggests Owaisi

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has warned that delimitation of parliamentary constituencies based on population will cause significant social upheaval. This move would reduce the number of Lok Sabha seats in states that have effectively controlled their populations. The president agreed with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s position that delimitation would cause injustice to southern states following national population policies. Owaisi said that the issue has been a concern for several years and that states should not be penalised for reducing population growth. Additionally, he demanded that the BJP and Sangh Parivar clarify their position on the issue. Owaisi criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comments in the US, noting that the worst anti-Muslim riots occurred during Congress’ rule in the 1980s. Owaisi also condemned Congress support of the BJP in passing the UAPA Act in July 2019. Finally, the AIMIM chief rebuffed claims that he would support Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s opposition to an ordinance nullifying a Supreme Court order.
