A landslide was reported in the village of Tholong located in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul Spiti district on Thursday, resulting in the blockage of a road for traffic movement. Thankfully, no loss of life or property was reported in the incident.
The State Emergency Operation Centre issued a statement saying it was informed about the landslide incident and that the Border Roads Organisation 94RCC had been informed to ensure clearance of the route.
In a similar incident on May 6, a huge landslide occurred near Mandi district, leading to a jam of around 700-800 vehicles. Despite the darkness of the night, no casualties were reported, according to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mandi Sagar Chander.
Last month, a landslide struck near Tangling tehsil in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, resulting in damage to the apple plants. Fortunately, no loss of life or property damage was reported in the incident.
At present, it is unclear what damage has been caused by the landslide in Tholong village. People are advised to stay vigilant while travelling in high-risk hilly areas as landslides can have catastrophic consequences.
