Last Chance to Enroll in Voter List: Indore State Assembly Elections August 2-31

The deadline for enrollment in the voter list for the upcoming State Assembly elections in Indore, Madhya Pradesh is fast approaching. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the Special Summary Revision-2 (SSR-2) will be rolled out in the district from August 2 and will run till August 31. As part of this revision, the draft voter list will be published on August 2, and all eligible voters are urged to visit their respective polling stations to peruse the list. If their name is not included, they must apply for inclusion in the prescribed format.

Collector and district election officer Ilayaraja T has made a special request to young voters between 18 and 20 years old to register their names in the voter list. Even those who will turn 18 by October 1, 2023, can apply for enrollment. The process to add names, as well as amend names and addresses, and remove names of deceased or shifted voters will continue until August 31. Special camps will also be organized on August 12, 13, 19, and 20 throughout the district to facilitate these activities. A total of 2,486 polling stations in the district will receive claims and objections, and nine registration officers have been appointed to oversee the process.

In a unique initiative to promote voter awareness, the National Anthem will now be performed on the first day of every month at the Collector’s office. Students with disabilities (Divyangs) gave a melodious rendition on Tuesday. Under the creative direction of Collector Ilayaraja T, the National Anthem will be performed by Divyang artists, transgenders, or private artists. Additionally, a voter awareness song was presented on the same occasion as part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Practices (SVEEP) program. The collector pledged a financial aid of Rs 1 lakh to the students’ institution.

As part of the SVEEP drive to educate voters about their rights and inspire young voters to enroll, a voter awareness chariot was flagged off from the Collector’s Office on Tuesday. District election office and collector Dr. Ilayaraja T inaugurated the chariot. It will travel to all assembly constituencies in the district, motivating citizens to vote and add their names to the voter list. CEO of Zilla Panchayat Vandana Sharma, additional collector and deputy district election officer Rajendra Raghuvanshi, and other officials were also present during this event.

The voter enrollment drive in Indore is a vital step to ensure maximum participation in the State Assembly elections. The Election Commission of India’s efforts, along with the active involvement of local authorities, will pave the way for a fair and transparent electoral process. It is crucial for eligible voters to take advantage of this last chance to enroll in the voter list and exercise their democratic right to vote.
