Lancashire MP Witnesses Progress in Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour

Lancashire MP, Andrew Stephenson, recently witnessed firsthand the progress being made in tackling anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the area. Joining officers in Nelson and Colne, Stephenson had the opportunity to understand how local issues are being addressed and how policing demand aligns with concerns raised by constituents. This walkabout provided valuable insight into the operations of Operation Centurion, which is effectively combatting ASB in Pendle.

Operation Centurion, launched in July, involves enhanced police patrols in ASB hotspots across the county. The initiative aims to take tough action against offenders by utilizing the full force of the law, as well as civil powers, to safeguard local communities. The visit to Colne was especially significant, as it was recently designated as one of eight additional hotspot areas where increased foot patrols will be implemented.

Expressing his satisfaction with the progress made, Stephenson highlighted the priority placed on combatting ASB in his Fighting Crime Plan. He commended the police for their proactive approach in addressing the concerns raised by residents. Additionally, the MP emphasized the positive impact of bolstered patrols, which have been instrumental in curbing ASB.

Stephenson was encouraged to hear that the additional civil enforcement officers, funded as part of the constabulary’s new ASB prevention and problem-solving approach, have facilitated easier enforcement of civil orders. This further strengthens the efforts to tackle ASB effectively.

The MP assured residents that he will continue working alongside the chief constable and other relevant partners, including fellow members of Parliament, to deliver the best possible outcomes for Lancashire’s residents. Collaborative efforts are crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of the communities.

Sharing his thoughts on the visit, Stephenson stated, It was great to hear directly from the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner and local officers about the work they are undertaking to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in Pendle. He also urged residents to play their part by promptly reporting incidents of anti-social behaviour, stressing the importance of collective responsibility.

The progress witnessed by Stephenson reflects a comprehensive approach towards tackling ASB in Lancashire. The combination of increased police presence through Operation Centurion, utilization of civil powers, and active cooperation with the community demonstrates a commitment to creating safer and more secure neighborhoods. As efforts continue to combat anti-social behavior, the overarching goal remains to ensure that Lancashire’s residents can live without fear and enjoy a high quality of life.
