Lagos State Government to Conduct Statewide Census for Public Primary School Pupils

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to carry out a comprehensive statewide census for public primary school pupils. The census, set to commence on Monday, November 13 and conclude on Thursday, November 16, aims to gather accurate data on the number of pupils in public primary schools across the state.

This initiative by the Lagos State Government is a significant step towards addressing the challenges faced by the education sector in the state. The accurate and up-to-date data from the census will allow the government to plan and allocate resources more effectively, ensuring that every child has access to quality education.

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has expressed his disappointment with previous administrations for their failure to adequately tackle the issue of insecurity plaguing the country. In a recent appearance before the Senate Committee on Defence, he highlighted the urgent need for the government to address the prevailing security challenges.

To further promote accountability and transparency in governance, the House of Representatives has invited several government agencies to appear before its Public Accounts Committee next week. The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Nigerian Immigration Service (NiMet), Niger State Command, Investment and Securities Tribunal, and the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria will all be questioned regarding the queries raised by the Auditor General for the Federation.

A Civil Society Organisation (CSO), the Nigerian Patriotic Forum (NPF), has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele. The CSO cited a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court order granting Emefiele bail after four months of arrest and detention.

In a bid to strengthen cooperation in the oil and gas sector, the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). In the face of Nigeria’s current economic realities, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has emphasized the necessity of borrowing to finance development projects. Akpabio made this assertion during an interactive session of the Senate Committee on Finance with various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
