The Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has successfully airlifted 2,379 Hajj pilgrims to Saudi Arabia, with 994 males and 1,385 females included in the contingent. The immediate past Commissioner for Home Affairs, Anofiu Elegushi, disclosed that the process began on June 1, which was ahead of the original schedule of June 4. The slow issuance of visas by the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Abuja caused a delay. Elegushi called on the embassy to expedite the process to assist all the remaining pilgrims to receive their visas in the shortest possible time. He expressed his appreciation for the pilgrims’ patience and understanding, urging them to remain calm during the situation while appreciating the state’s efforts against the challenges. The remaining intending pilgrims are expected to receive their visas soon.
