LA Galaxy Foundation, Herbalife, and the U.S. Soccer Foundation have come together to announce a joint commitment to installing four new mini-pitches across Los Angeles by 2026. This initiative builds upon the successful installation of two mini-pitches at DeForest Park in Long Beach earlier this year, as well as one at Andrew Jackson Elementary School in Santa Ana in 2016.

Tom Braun, the LA Galaxy Senior Vice President of Soccer & Business Operations and Business Development, expressed the organization’s excitement about the partnership, stating, Not only do these fields provide safe places to play in our neighborhoods, but they expand on our collective commitment to the advancement of the sport at all levels as we look to grow the game of soccer in our communities.

Mini-pitches are small, customized, hard-court surfaces about the size of a basketball court. They are ideal for organized soccer programs and pick-up games. These mini-pitches serve as community hubs, promoting physical activity, improving safety perceptions, and strengthening community cohesion.

Humberto Calleja, Vice President and General Manager for Herbalife, North America, highlighted the positive impact this partnership can have on children’s well-being, stating, Through this partnership and commitment to giving back to our communities, we can make a lasting impact on children by encouraging well-being based on positive experiences that help them live their best lives.

Surveys conducted in communities with mini-pitches have shown overwhelmingly positive feedback. 99% of respondents reported increased activity levels, 98% felt their community was safer, and 91% viewed the mini-pitch as a community hub.

Ed Foster-Simeon, President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, expressed his excitement about expanding their relationship with the LA Galaxy Foundation and Herbalife. He stated, These mini-pitches not only provide safe places for youth to play but serve as community hubs that strengthen communities.

This commitment aligns with the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s It’s Everyone’s Game national movement, which aims to ensure that children in underserved communities have access to the health and youth development benefits of the game. Their goal is to install 1,000 mini-pitches by 2026. To date, over 600 mini-pitches have been installed nationwide.

The LA Galaxy Foundation, Herbalife, and the U.S. Soccer Foundation are dedicated to promoting the sport of soccer and providing safe places for children to play. By installing these mini-pitches, they are creating opportunities for physical activity, community engagement, and personal growth.
