A 50-year-old man from La Crosse, Lonell A. Powers, has been arrested and is currently being held in the La Crosse County Jail on a $1,000 cash bond. The arrest came after Holmen police allegedly found 15 grams of methamphetamine in his possession. Powers is now facing a charge of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.
According to the criminal complaint, on September 4th, Holmen police observed Powers operating a vehicle at a significantly reduced speed on Holmen Drive. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle’s registration was suspended, leading to a traffic stop. During the stop, Powers informed the police that he was on his way to a friend’s house to pull a car. However, he was unable to provide the last name of this friend.
Further investigation revealed that Powers was on parole for drug charges and had conditions of house arrest. With this information, the police conducted a search of the vehicle, leading to the discovery of methamphetamine packaged in a way consistent with distribution.
Powers is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on September 14th.
