Kunal Ghosh, Trinamool Congress state spokesman in West Bengal, has rejected the allegations made by Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the state Assembly, accusing the ruling party of flouting norms regarding the distribution of nomination forms for the upcoming panchayat poll. Ghosh argued that the figures for political party nominations on Friday proved that the process had been carried out following the rules laid out by the West Bengal State Election Commission. Ghosh claimed that the BJP, which filed 677 candidate nominations on the first day, demonstrated their active engagement in the process and proved how baseless the allegations of the opposition leader were. Adhikari had also claimed that a local Trinamool Congress leader had been allowed to collect nomination papers indiscriminately, flouting the commission’s prescribed norms, while opposition candidates had to face obstacles and long queues.
