Kolkata-based businessmen Amit Agarwal and Dilip Ghosh have been sent to judicial custody for 14 days after their arrest in connection with the sale and purchase of army-occupied land. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) produced both the accused in the court and sought a remand of five days. After the court fixed the date of hearing, they were sent to jail. The ED had called the businessmen for questioning on Wednesday and arrested them after an hour-long session.
A lot of activity was observed at the ED office since Thursday morning after both were sent to jail. A medical team checked the health of the businessmen before they were produced before the court in the afternoon. Following a normal checkup, they were sent to judicial custody. The ED is likely to request the court to take both the businessmen on remand on June 9.
Earlier, eight accused, including former Ranchi DC Chhavi Ranjan, were arrested and sent to jail in the same case of the sale and purchase of army land. Abid Khan, Imtiaz Ahmed, Pradeep Bagchi, Saddam Hussain, Talha Khan, Bhanu Pratap, and Fayaz Khan are the other accused who have been arrested.
The ED is investigating the matter and has arrested ten people so far. The case involves the sale and purchase of army land. The hearing will be held in the court on June 9, and the ED will question the two businessmen regarding the matter related to the land.
