Kogi State Assembly Urges Government to Combat Organ Theft and Lynching in Urgent Call for Action

The Kogi State House of Assembly has made a fervent plea to the state government, urging them to take immediate and proactive measures to address the growing cases of organ theft and lynching of innocent individuals. The assembly is deeply concerned about the alarming rise in these crimes and has called upon the police to thoroughly investigate and apprehend the culprits responsible for organ theft in Lokoja, the state capital, as well as across the entire Kogi State.

The assembly’s call for action comes in response to a motion of urgent public importance introduced by Hon. Bin Ebaiya Shehu Tijani, the representative of Lokoja I State Constituency. Hon. Shehu expressed his distress about the distressing occurrences of male organ theft, often carried out through superstitious beliefs and the use of magical powers.

Hon. Shehu informed his colleagues that not only have there been recorded incidents of false claims, but actual cases of theft have also taken place. Tragically, those falsely accused are often subjected to mob justice and lynched without any proper investigation. He cited the example of an innocent okada rider, whose passenger baselessly accused him of organ theft, leading to his lynching by passers-by at Felele.

We are greatly disturbed by the incidents of false accusations and subsequent lynching of innocent individuals. The recent case involving the okada rider highlights the urgency for our legislative intervention, Hon. Shehu stated.

Supporting the motion, Hon. Bello Oluwaseyi, the Deputy Chief Whip representing Kabba/Bunu, emphasized the need for both the government and security agencies to take immediate action to prevent a crisis in Kogi State. He stressed that cases of organ theft have been steadily increasing in the past week and cannot be ignored.

Responding to the gravity of the situation, the speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Umar Aliyu, urged security agencies to perform their duties diligently and maintain law and order in Kogi State to prevent any further chaos.

In other news, the house approved the nominations of Hon. Yahaya Ade Ismail as Commissioner and Barr. Alfred Bello as a board member of the Kogi State House of Assembly Service Commission.

The Kogi State House of Assembly’s urgent call for action against organ theft and lynching demonstrates their resolve to combat these heinous crimes. The government and security agencies must take swift measures to address the issue and bring the culprits to justice. It is hoped that through joint efforts, the people of Kogi State can live in peace and safety, without fear of falling victim to such atrocities.
