Sigdi B1, a sub-division in Kishtwar district, has been declared the first ‘Nasha Mukt’ Panchayat in the region, according to the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Devansh Yadav. The announcement was made at the 10th Narco Coordination Committee meeting in Kishtwar. Yadav attributed the success to the collective efforts of civil and police administrations, along with other stakeholders. Yadav said that the journey to becoming ‘Nasha Mukt’ involved three stages, including the passing of a resolution in March committing to combating substance abuse, creating a list of addicts and peddlers, and setting up checking points to confront suspected peddlers. All these activities were followed by constitution of village surveillance teams to ensure contact monitoring and ground inputs. Yadav also said that intensive testing procedures were conducted to ensure that the panchayat was free from substance abuse. The declaration of being a ‘Nasha Mukt’ Panchayat is provisional and claims can be submitted for verification by the DC Kishtwar office within a month, with 12 more Panchayats in the pipeline to achieve this milestone.
