London, Jan 26 – Britain’s King Charles III underwent treatment for an enlarged prostate at a private hospital in London on Friday morning. The 75-year-old monarch, who is said to be doing well, visited his daughter-in-law, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, at the same hospital before his procedure. Queen Camilla accompanied the King to the hospital and has now left, while Charles is expected to spend at least one night for observation.
The decision to make the King’s health issue public was aimed at raising awareness about prostate health and encouraging other men to get their prostates checked. Buckingham Palace released a statement expressing the King’s delight at the positive impact of his diagnosis on public health awareness. The statement also conveyed his gratitude to those who sent their good wishes.
Enlarged prostate, a non-cancerous condition, is common in men over 50 and usually not serious. The condition affects approximately one in three men over 50 and can cause urinary symptoms due to pressure on the bladder.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sent his best wishes to the King for a speedy recovery. The King’s medical procedure took place at the same hospital where Catherine recently underwent abdominal surgery.
King Charles ascended to the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, on September 8, 2022, with his coronation taking place on May 6, 2023.
As the King’s treatment progresses, the public eagerly awaits his full recovery.
