Kevin Spacey Sexual Assault Trial: Court Hears Accuser’s Testimony of Angry Groping Incident
A man who accused Kevin Spacey of sexual assault has finally shared his story after keeping it hidden for over a decade, fearing that no one would believe him. In a London court, the accuser detailed the degrading incident in a video interview played for the jurors. The man, who acted as a keeper of Spacey’s secret, decided to join other accusers during the #MeToo movement in 2017. His aim is not to seek revenge or see Spacey imprisoned but to hold him accountable for the injustice that has plagued him for so long.
Spacey, 63, has pleaded not guilty to a dozen charges that could result in imprisonment if he is convicted. His lawyer vehemently denies all allegations, suggesting that the accusers are motivated by financial gain.
Four men have come forward with allegations of sexual assault against Spacey, dating back to his time working at the Old Vic Theatre between 2001 and 2013. The charges include seven counts of sexual assault, three counts of indecent assault, and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.
The accuser recounted his initial excitement at meeting an actor of Spacey’s caliber, which swiftly turned sour when the actor arrived at a charity event disheveled and smelling of alcohol. According to the man, Spacey proceeded to make crude and racially offensive remarks, asking about the size of his genitals in a series of relentless comments. The man described feeling powerless despite being younger, taller, and larger than Spacey. He didn’t want to disrupt the charity event and attempted to brush off the uncomfortable situation by laughing it off. However, the man emphasized that he was clearly uncomfortable and deeply hurt by Spacey’s actions.
Eventually, Spacey stopped making comments, but later, when they were alone, the man claimed the actor forcefully grabbed his crotch through his jeans. The accuser compared the act to an angry cobra striking, stating it was not a seductive gesture but an aggressive one. He experienced pain and had to physically push Spacey away to end the assault. Notably, this is the third man to testify that Spacey had aggressively grabbed their genitals.
During a police interview in May 2019, Spacey claimed no recollection of meeting the accuser. The actor denied drinking, appearing disheveled, making sexual remarks, or engaging in any nonconsensual acts. He accused the man of seeking monetary compensation and highlighted that a lawsuit had been filed against him. The accuser, however, stated that he reached out to police to be a character witness and support others who had made accusations against Spacey.
The trial will resume on Thursday with a jury comprising nine men and three women at Southwark Crown Court. Kevin Spacey, who has residences in the U.S. and London, remains free on bail.
Throughout the trial, both sides have presented conflicting accounts of events, with the defense claiming the accusers are motivated by financial gain, while the prosecution argues for justice and accountability.
