Leading producer Keshet International (KI) has unveiled its new commissioning initiative, KI’s Greenlight: Factual & Formats, boosting the true crime genre. The company has also announced its first straight-to-series order for international distribution.
Under this initiative, KI has commissioned Woodcut Media to produce a 10-episode true crime docuseries titled Catch Me If You Can. This marks KI’s first factual series that has been greenlit and fully funded by the company. Catch Me If You Can explores the world of elusive killers who meticulously plan their crimes and engage in psychological warfare with investigators.
Each episode of the series delves into the pursuit of a different elusive killer, showcasing the mind games they play to outsmart those trying to bring them to justice. Using a combination of first-hand accounts, expert analysis, and stylized recreations, viewers will gain unprecedented insights into the methods and systems used by the police to capture these murderers.
The first season of Catch Me If You Can will feature notorious killers such as James Watson, the Amazon Review Killer Todd Kohlhepp, cop killer Eric Frein, and Amanda Taylor, who went on the run after stabbing her husband’s father-in-law to death.
Kelly Wright, KI’s Managing Director of Distribution, expressed excitement about the launch of KI’s Greenlight: Factual & Formats and the series order for Catch Me If You Can. This initiative aims to meet the high demand for premium factual content and formats while offering a platform for producers struggling to get their series commissioned.
Woodcut Media CEO Kate Beal highlighted the importance of telling these stories with sensitivity and thorough research. Catch Me If You Can focuses on the chase and capture of elusive killers, providing viewers with a thrilling roller coaster ride as they wonder if the perpetrators will be caught.
The series will be executive produced by Kate Beal and Nick Mavroidakis at Woodcut Media, alongside KI’s Kelly Wright, with Angie Cox as Series Producer. Pre-production will commence soon, with filming scheduled for October. Keshet International plans to present Catch Me If You Can at MIPCOM 2024 for international distribution.
KI intends to hold its second annual producer pitch, expanded to include premium factual content, formats, and true crime, on November 27, 2023. With the goal of greenlighting up to three English-language projects annually, KI’s Greenlight: Factual & Formats initiative seeks to commission original premium content with global appeal.
In summary, Keshet International’s launch of Greenlight: Factual & Formats and the commissioning of Catch Me If You Can reflect the company’s commitment to satisfying the demand for high-quality factual programming. With its fresh approach to telling true crime stories and focus on the chase, the docuseries promises to captivate audiences worldwide.
