Filmmakers Vipul Shah and Sudipto Sen, known for their work on The Kerala Story, have announced their latest project, Bastar. Shah’s production company, Sunshine Pictures, shared the announcement on Twitter, revealing that the film will be released in theaters on April 5, 2024. According to the makers, Bastar is inspired by a true incident and will uncover a hidden truth that will shock the nation. While not much is known about the film’s plot or cast, it is expected to be another gripping and successful project.
Shah and Sen’s previous collaboration, The Kerala Story, exlpores the alleged brainwashing of young women in Kerala to join the Islamic State (IS) and travel to countries like Syria and Afghanistan. The film’s trailer stirred controversy, particularly over its estimated figure of 32,000 missing women in Kerala. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the story distorted and imposed a ban on the film in the state. However, following a Supreme Court order to lift the ban, the film made a successful debut in 2023 and earned critical acclaim.
Bastar promises to be another fascinating true story brought to the silver screen by these two accomplished filmmakers. Stay tuned for more information and details on the film’s plot, cast, and crew as they become available.
