The Leader of Opposition in Kerala, V D Satheesan, has written a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, seeking direct flight services to Middle Eastern countries. Satheesan has urged Scindia to start direct flights from the international airports in Trivandrum, Kochi, Kozhikode, and Kannur to Middle Eastern and other countries. He said that the lack of direct flights is causing difficulties for the expatriates who work in different regions of those countries. Satheesan has also requested the Union Ministry to take measures to regulate the escalating air ticket prices during festive seasons, such as Onam, Christmas, Ramadan, and Pongal. Expatriates have expressed their concerns over the fares that are rising up to INR 1 lakh for a one-way ticket from the Middle East. Satheesan has requested the Aviation Minister to make provisions for direct flights and control the skyrocketing air ticket prices during festive seasons.
