Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has expressed concern that the collapse of the higher education sector is a more severe issue than the collapse of law and order in the state. The caution comes after a spate of alleged fake certificate cases and malpractices reported at higher education institutions which involve activists of the Students Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist). SFI activists were implicated in several cases in which forged documents secured teaching jobs or admission to Post Graduate courses, sending a huge setback to the student’s organisation. Khan, also the chancellor of state universities, warned that if student organisations could orchestrate such activities, it was highly problematic and required further investigations.
