Khiamniungan Union Mokokchung (KUM) has cautioned its members against engaging in anti-social activities such as arms smuggling and drug trafficking. The union has stated that it will not be responsible for any consequences that arise from these illegal activities. During the first mass public meeting of the union, L Bumeng Lam, the deputy superintendent of the jail, emphasized the importance of leading a sober life and abstaining from intoxicants to become successful in life.
K Sangsa, the advisor of KUM, urged members to maintain unity and reject the creation of separate unions or associations in the town. He encouraged members to live a pure life, emphasizing that their identity should be their priority. The vice president of KUM, S Pahin Meyah, spoke about the importance of having a respectful relationship between domestic helpers and their owners. He also encouraged those studying and living with someone else to value education and serve their tribesmen and villagers.
The Kheloi, vice president of Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (Khiamniungan Women’s Organisation), Mokokchung unit, also spoke on the occasion. She emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and encouraged members to register with KUM to avoid any potential problems or inconvenience in the future.
