Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced the closure of all schools in flood-affected districts. Unfortunately, the announcement came late, as students had already left for school in the morning.

Residents of the affected areas expressed their concerns about the situation. Prakash Rajput, a resident of civil lines, shared that his sons had to call him from their teachers’ phone around 10.30 am to ask him to pick them up. The school and its surrounding areas were flooded, causing stress for both teachers and students.

Aprajita Gautam, the president of the Delhi Parents’ Association, also acknowledged the delay in the announcement, stating that schoolchildren usually leave between 6 and 7 am. She pointed out that many schools were also conducting exams during this time, which put parents in a difficult situation as they had to decide whether to send their children to school despite the floods.

In response to the floods, Chief Minister Kejriwal took to Twitter to urge residents to avoid the roadways near the Yamuna River, which had been flooded due to rising water levels. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing human life and mentioned that certain water treatment facilities had to be shut down, resulting in water shortages in some areas.

Kejriwal’s tweet also called for community members, including volunteers, councillors, and politicians, to come together and support the relief camps set up to assist those displaced by the flooding.

To personally assess the situation, Kejriwal visited the Wazirabad water treatment facility located on the banks of the Yamuna River. During his visit, he expressed concerns about the upcoming water shortage and assured the people that every effort would be made to restore normalcy as soon as the water level receded.

The flooding of the Yamuna River has reached an unprecedented level, exceeding a 45-year-old milestone. Officials monitoring the river reported that it was running three meters above the defined danger level of 205.33 meters as of Thursday morning.

In conclusion, Chief Minister Kejriwal’s announcement of school closures in flood-affected districts has been met with criticism due to its delayed timing. The situation has caused inconvenience and stress for students, parents, and educators alike. Kejriwal has appealed for support from the community and assured residents that efforts are being made to address the water shortage and restore normalcy as soon as the water level recedes. The flooding of the Yamuna River has reached unprecedented levels, posing significant challenges for the affected areas.
