Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of neglecting the country while interfering in Delhi’s affairs. Kejriwal made the statement during AAP’s mega rally against the Centre’s ordinance at Ramlila Maidan.
The Delhi CM spoke about the BJP’s failure to govern and criticized the withdrawal of the Rs 2000 note as well as the damage caused to the railway sector. He also noted the inability of BJP MPs, who were chosen by the Delhi voters, to represent the interests of the people.
Kejriwal said he would continue to expose the BJP’s lies and urged non-BJP parties to come together to defeat the Centre’s ordinance in Rajya Sabha. He stated that such a move would send a strong message to the Modi government that it will not come to power in 2024.
A heavy security deployment was put in place around the Ramlila Maidan due to the recent rally. The Union government brought an ordinance to notify rules for the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) on May 19th, which, according to Kejriwal, circumvents the Supreme Court judgement in the Centre versus Delhi case.
Kejriwal has been on a nationwide tour to seek support from opposition parties against the ordinance, with recent meetings with Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Uddhav Thackeray, Hemant Soren, K Chandrashekar Rao, MK Stalin, Sharad Pawar, Nitish Kumar, and Tejashwi Yadav. Additionally, lawyer and former Union Minister Kapil Sibal attended the rally at the invitation of Chief Minister Kejriwal and spoke about the legal and constitutional aspects of the ordinance.
