Kedarnath Yatra Stalled in Sonprayag Amid Heavy Rains in Uttarakhand

Due to heavy rainfall in the Rudraprayag district, the Kedarnath Yatra has come to a halt at Sonprayag, the officials reported on June 25. The Kedarnath temple remains closed until further notice, said Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mayur Dixit. Moreover, Haridwar has witnessed 78mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, accompanied by Dehradun and Uttarkashi which received 33.2mm and 27.7mm rainfall, respectively, according to the India Meteorological Department.

Surprise inspection carried out by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the State Disaster Management Control Room located at the Secretariat uncovered the reality of the heavy rains in the state. He instructed all officers to remain alert for relief and rescue operations and to coordinate with districts affected by heavy rainfall. CM Dhami emphasized maintaining the flow of communication and coordination for dealing with emergency scenarios in a timely and efficient manner.

More than 30 lakh pilgrims have already visited Char Dham, and over 10 lakh of them have visited Kedarnath to date in the ongoing Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, according to Director General of Police Ashok Kumar. Uttrakhand Police officials are ensuring the safety of Char Dham Yatra devotees and are committed to providing a secure and smooth darshan experience. While Gangotri and Yamunotri doors opened for devotees on April 22, Kedarnath and Badrinath Dham doors opened on April 25 and April 27 this year, respectively.

The Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand has suffered heavy rainfall, resulting in the halt of Kedarnath Yatra at Sonprayag and the postponement of Kedarnath opening until further notice. It is imperative to remain in alert mode by coordinating and maintaining mutual communication with the affected districts in Uttarakhand, according to the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Char Dham Yatra has over 30 lakh pilgrims who have already visited, and safety measures are in place to provide devotees with a smooth darshan experience.
