Amid surge in cases, Karnataka mandates 7-day home isolation for Covid positive
Karnataka has witnessed a surge in Covid-19 cases, prompting the state government to implement a new measure in order to curb the spread of the virus. From now on, all individuals who test positive for Covid-19 must isolate at home for a period of seven days. Additionally, all symptomatic primary contacts of these positive cases will undergo testing.
On Tuesday, the state reported a notable increase in cases, with 74 fresh infections, out of which 57 were recorded in Bengaluru. Two deaths were also attributed to Covid-19. To address the alarming situation, a cabinet sub-committee led by state health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao will soon issue guidelines aimed at containing the virus.
In an effort to ramp up testing, around 5,000 Covid-19 tests will be conducted each day. Furthermore, government and private company employees who are under home isolation will be granted seven days of leave. To ensure proper care and monitoring, doctors and healthcare staff from UPHCs (Urban Primary Health Centers) and Namma Clinics will visit those under home isolation or admitted to general wards. Meanwhile, individuals in ICUs will be monitored through tele-ICU services from the state headquarters.
At present, there are no restrictions in place for New Year celebrations or inter-state travel. However, senior citizens and individuals with comorbidities are required to wear masks for their safety. Additionally, parents have been advised not to send their children to school if they are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cold, or cough until these symptoms subside.
In a positive step towards vaccination, Karnataka is set to receive 30,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines from the central government. These doses will be distributed to taluk and district hospitals, contributing to the ongoing efforts to combat the virus.
