Karnataka Minister for Labour, Santhosh S. Lad, has questioned the decision to hand over the Odhisa train accident case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), stating that it makes no sense given the apparent technical error that caused the tragedy. Speaking to reporters in Dharwad, Lad said that he had spoken to engineers in Odisha who suspect that the accident occurred due to a technical oversight, which resulted in the information about the goods train not being passed to the main station. The minister went on to suggest that the CBI’s involvement could be an attempt to cover up this mistake. Lad recently visited the site of the accident in Balasore and is currently leading a team to attend to people who are stranded in Odisha and West Bengal as a result of the incident. The team has been visiting hospitals and mortuaries in search of victims from Karnataka. The train accident, which occurred on Friday evening, has claimed the lives of 275 individuals.
