The Karnataka Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, KH Muniyappa, has accused the BJP government of playing politics with the state’s ‘Anna Bhagya’ scheme. Speaking to IANS, Muniyappa confirmed that the state has no financial issues regarding the scheme and will provide food to poor people. The ongoing row between the Central government and the alleged move to not sell rice, which is in stock with the Food Corporation of India (FCI), has forced Karnataka to look elsewhere. Muniyappa added that they are in talks with other states to procure rice, stating that Telangana is ready to offer wheat. It is currently unclear whether Karnataka will procure rice from Congress-ruled states such as Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
