Karnataka has recorded impressive GST collections of Rs 10,317 crore, second only to Maharashtra in India. The state’s revenue for May saw an increase of 12%, compared to the same period in 2019, while India’s overall GST collection also showed a 12% increase. This can be attributed to higher compliance and e-invoicing, which will soon become mandatory for businesses with turnovers above Rs 5 crore. The department will hold webinars and provide other e-invoicing generation facilities to streamline GST collections in the coming months. Karnataka’s impressive GST collections are outperforming traditional sources of revenue such as stamps and registration, transport and excise.
