Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai slammed CM Siddaramaiah for the blame game on the central government. Instead, he urged the state government to purchase rice from outside agencies or transfer amounts to the accounts of the people. He also questioned why the CM had not written to the Central government directly or floated a tender and found parallel means. The BJP alleged that the Congress government had been stalling in getting publicity instead of implementing the scheme. The Congress State Government accused BJP leaders of being anti-poor while the Centre said they took the decision due to the lack of rainfall and to ensure there is no shortage of food. The central government has been providing free 5 kg of rice to all states under the Food Security Act.
