The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Karnataka has criticized the new Congress government for increasing property tax in BBMP to provide for its five guarantees. Senior AAP leader Jagdish V. Sadam called the decision shameless, saying the Congress government needed to ensure transparency and honesty, increase revenue collection, and provide freebies without taking loans. The Congress had promised freebies, such as Rs 2,000 for every woman head of the household under the Gruhalaxmi scheme, free bus travel for women, and free electricity up to 200 units. The AAP warned that it would take to the streets if the BBMP increased property tax to provide for these.
