The authorities of western Uttar Pradesh have prohibited the possession of spears, tridents, and other such objects during the Kanwar Yatra, along with a ban on vulgar songs being played. Officials have been instructed to ensure medical facilities every five kilometers, along with halting camps, during the yatra. The Kanwar Yatra, commencing in early July, allows thousands of Shiva devotees called Kanwariyas to walk to their hometowns with holy water from the Ganga in Haridwar. Principal Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad has given various guidelines to ensure that the yatra is conducted peacefully and proper facilities are made available for the pilgrims. Measures have also been implemented to ensure that indecent songs are not played and the pilgrims are well taken care of during the event. Additionally, officials are keeping a watch on criminal elements and rumors circulating on social media. The authorities have divided western Uttar Pradesh into five zones for the yatra and have prepared a plan for traffic diversion, parking, and setting up health camps. The preparations were made on the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and officials from Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Delhi are present at the meeting.
