Kano State Government has announced its plans to pursue legal action against individuals responsible for the recent fraudulently sold 156 Hajj slots, which were originally allocated to the state by the National Hajj Commission. The announcement was made by the Director General of the Kano Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Laminu Rabiu, on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

Rabiu explained that Kano State was allocated a total of 6,144 seats by the National Hajj Commission for the pilgrimage. However, he discovered that the agency’s former officials, led by Muhammad Abba Danbatta, had already sold all the seats, including an over-sale of 156 seats.

Rabiu expressed regret over the situation and reassured the affected pilgrims that they would be given priority in next year’s Hajj. He stated, We have pleaded with them to be patient and assured them that next year they will be among the first to be considered.

The Director General also emphasized that once the Hajj is over, investigations will commence, and anyone found guilty of fraudulent activities will face legal consequences. The Kano Pilgrims Welfare Agency is currently awaiting the allocation of aircraft to the state by the National Hajj Commission, expected to occur within the next few days.

This incident highlights the need for stricter oversight and governance in the management of important religious obligations. It is essential to take steps that can prevent similar incidences from occurring in the future.

In conclusion, the Kano State Government has prioritized justice for the victims of the fraudulent Hajj seat sales. It is also critical that more attention is given to transparency and accountability in the management of religious affairs.
